The most exciting new feature are "biome effects" which include weather (rain, wind, blizzards, sand storms, toxic gas) as well as enchantments and curses. These work as modifiers to biomes and apply a status effect to all units on the level. Different biome effects are encountered on different difficulty levels. This multiplies the number of unique environments and gives the player unique challenges, which sometimes can be used to your advantage.

Management of player allies was improved as a result of two additions. First, a trap avoidance system was implemented. Second, an ally command system was implemented allowing the player to change the behavior of allies to attack, defend, or follow.

Finally, story elements were added to the game. Each character class has its own backstory and each boss has a backstory as well. Character classes were given new starting items, abilities, and units to make them more unique.

Major changes:

  1. Added biome effects including weather, curses, etc. that apply different effects to all units in a biome
  2. Improvements to character classes including starting items, abilities, and units
  3. Story content for each character class and each boss
  4. New units (including aquatic creatures)
  5. Unit trap avoidance (allies only)
  6. Ability to toggle behavior of allies (attack, defend, follow)
  7. Improvements to unit animations
  8. Improved 3D models for units, equipment, and map objects
  9. Improved terrain textures
  10. QoL improvements
  11. Balancing
  12. Bug fixes
