A main focus of this update was balancing. Starting with player attributes, the impacts of Fortitude, Willpower, and Charisma were increased while Intelligence was nerfed. Various abilities were either removed, swapped, or improved. The Brawling and Martial Arts skill trees saw the most changes with with new abilities and buffs. More balancing and improvement to stats and abilities to come in the future.
Two big changes were made to the game mechanics:
- Previously, enemies would continuously respawn on maps, meaning a player could never "clear" a level. Now the enemy respawn rate will decrease after every kill until it stops completely, allowing the player to completely explore the level without threats.
- The player now has some control over the path they travel in the game. At up to two points each game, the player may choose the next biome to travel to, using info gained from perception. This changes the next biome visited and may also alter biome effects, enemy factions, the miniboss, and even the following biome that the player will encounter.
Here is a full summary of the changes:
General
- Enemy respawn rate now decreases after each kill until it stops completely (this allows "clearing" levels completely, however there is no direct benefit to the player)
- Increased number of starting enemies
- Player auto-move is interrupted when the player is attacked
- Improved companion pathing
- Made shop prices more expensive
Items
- Alternate abilities for consumable items to expand their functionality, some of which are secret abilities (Torch, Grappling Hook, Jade Potion, Crimson Potion, Azure Potion, Meat, Briarwood Brew)
- 6 new items (Velvet Slippers, Grimhide Gloves, Ritual Dagger, Icicle Wand, Skull Wand, and Shimmering Wand)
- Changes to attributes of many items
Abilities
- New Abilities: Flying Kick (replacing Vault)
- Buffed Abilities: Toughness, Leap Attack, Bloodlust, Pulverize, Skullsplitter, Weak Points, Iron Will
- Nerfed Abilities: Time Warp, Teleport, Inner Flame, Ice Shield
Map
- Forking Paths: at up to 2 points each game you may choose the next biome to travel to, potentially altering the game's future biomes and miniboss
- Guaranteed appearance of Trade Guilds and Shrines (no longer purely random)
- Decreased amount of treasure in dungeon
UI
- Biome and day info moved to new Map window
- Display total # of companions underneath player
Graphics & Audio
- Player characters have custom hair to match their portraits
- New spin attack and kick attack animations
- Improvements to various models
Balancing
- Fortitude gives +5 Max Health (instead of +2)
- Personality gives +2 Charisma (instead of +1)
- Reduced the experience boost from Intelligence
- Base Max Mana reduced to 6 (from 8)
- Reduced base Max Health to 20 (from 28)
- Modified Charisma formula for price decreases
- Other misc balance changes
